Feeders should be cleaned at least once a season, preferably once a month during the summer months to maintain a healthy feeder. Supplies you need to clean feeders: dish washing liquid, tube brush, tooth brush, plastic scrubber, HandiWipe, paper towels, hair dryer and of course plenty of HOT water. The tooth brush comes in handy for tiny places that need scrubbing. The hair dryer makes it easier to dry the tubes and get them back to the birds quicker. You can even add a small amount of bleach to the water if the feeders have gotten moldy. If you routinely clean your feeders then the job becomes easier & faster. Healthy feeders equals healthy birds.
I have been watching birds since a small child when I shared the joy of birdfeeding with my grandparents. In 1988 my passion evolved into Backyard Birds Nature Shop.
